It all started in 1988 at the age of 14, through a love of Iron Maiden and a dislike of fishing. My dad, Bernie, would drag me off round the South Coast trying to catch as many Mackerel, Conger etc as possible. I had no interest in this but had developed a love for Heavy Metal music. So I convinced him to buy me a guitar. Thoughtfully he bought me two, a Hohner Strat copy/amp for home and a cheapy nylon string acoustic for entertaining myself on fishing trips.
Quickly I realised two things, I absolutely loved it and I had become fairly accomplished in a matter of weeks.
Luckily enough my school, Hartcliffe Comp, had a fantastic music department (cheers Mr Henderson) and encouraged me from the start. I was also fortunate enough that in my year there where a number of other accomplished musicians, including the truly magnificent drummer, Matt Woolman.
At college I was fortunate enough to lead the two college jazz bands, (1 was cool and tuther was far out man) under the watchful eye of trumpet legend Pete Judge. As well as performing/writing fantastical Gothic Rock with Tim Senior.
During this time I had also got a part-time job at Freeway music, a small guitar shop on North Street, Bedminster. After college I took over the business as my own and frankly sucked at being a young businessmen. If anybody ever hears me talking about buying another guitar shop, please punch me in the face.
During the 90's I was a founder member of the Bristol punk band 'The Mob' (yes I know there was another band with the same name from the 70's but this was before Google, life was harder) with the famously infamous legend that is Chris Williams. We achieved some success, a bit of record industry interest and a number of support tours with some of the leading UK/US punk bands.
As I've got older I've gotten quieter (this may change without any prior notice), performing regularly with local Irish legends 'The Ceili', collaborating with the fantastically talented folk-diva Amanda Boyd and my duo The Brigstows.
Bye for now.
